ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
Adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) plays a central role as an energy source in every cell of the human body. Extracellular ATP is involved in the regulation of a variety of biologic processes, including neurotransmission, muscle contraction, cardiac function and liver glucose/glycogen metabolism.
Many metabolic processes produce lactic acid as a waste product. ATP is what the body produces to recycle the lactic acid metabolic waste back into a usable form: glucose. The body can normally produce enough ATP to carry out this constant recycling process. Certain ailments, though, can adversely affect the balance of this cycle. The most important systemic effect of this metabolic imbalance is the utilization of a large amount of blood glucose, and the release of correspondingly large amounts of lactate acid into the blood. An enormous amount of extra ATP is required to recycle the lactic acid back into glucose (usable energy), which thus begins the cycle again. ATP is not stored by the body, and therefore must be manufactured as needed. Starvation occurs when the body cannot make enough ATP to recycle the lactic acid metabolic waste.
When the body's ATP reserves become depleted beyond what it can manufacture, the body goes into an energy conservation mode (the first stages of starvation). Liver and pancreatic enzyme production is significantly lowered to insufficient amounts during this conservation mode. Every living cell in the human body produces ATP, but ATP cannot be produced from fat. Instead ATP production relies on body protein. In the starvation/conservation mode, the body must take the energy it requires for ATP manufacture from itself and begins to digest its own protein source, the organs and muscles, in a process known as cachexia.
However, ATP is found in great abundance in meats such as beef, bison and lamb. Consumption of meat allow the body to convert lactic acid back into glucose with no net harm to the body.

Enzymes
Enzymes are catalysts that accelerate reactions, or even permit reactions that would otherwise not happen, over and over again while they themselves remain unchanged. They aid in the breakdown, digestion and absorption of nutrients. Our body's ability to function, repair itself when injured, and ward off disease is directly related to the strength and number of our enzymes. An enzyme deficiency can be devastating.
The pancreas manufactures three classes of enzymes, each with its own function. Amylase breaks down carbohydrates and sugars, lipase breaks down fats, and proteolytic enzymes (or proteases, such as bromelain) break down the long chainlike protein molecules into smaller fragments. The vast majority of metabolic enzymes in the body the enzymes that regulate everything from liver function to the immune system are proteolytic enzymes (protease). Any illness which affects the pancreas, therefore, puts the body in danger of enzyme insufficiency. Cancer cells actually act as enzyme-inhibitors by secreting a number of substances (usually glyco-proteins in the form of lactate - a precursor to lactic acid) that inhibit the production of proteases in the pancreas.
There are millions of new cells produced in the body every day in a continuous process. It is impossible that every single cell will be perfect, so the body has a control process in place. This control process relies on the pancreatic enzymes released throughout the body by the pancreas. These enzymes can break down the protective membrane (fibrin - a carbohydrate chain) that surrounds defective cells and is the "glue" that attaches them to vessel walls and tissues.
As we age, injuries and illnesses place added stress on our bodies, and we cannot produce sufficient proteolytic enzymes to help break down and eliminate defective cells. A diet of enzyme-deficient foods (those which are cooked or processed) is also a drain on the body's enzyme production, which raises the enzyme production load on the pancreas. This is especially important if pancreatic function is impaired due to illness.

Food Enzymes: The First Line of Defense...
Research shows that protein digesting enzymes can dissolve the protein coating from around cancer cells, and this enables white blood cells (which are part of the immune system) to destroy the cancer cells. Article by Mauris Emeka, author of Cancers Best Medicine and Fear Cancer No More. |

Pancreatic Cancer, Proteolytic Enzyme Therapy and Detoxification...
The Scottish embryologist, John Beard, who worked at the University of Edinburgh at the turn of the century, first proposed in 1906 that pancreatic proteolytic enzymes, in addition to their well-known digestive function, represent the body's main defense against cancer. He further proposed that pancreatic enzymes would most likely be useful as a cancer treatment. |

What Are Proteolytic Enzymes?...
The vast majority of metabolic enzymes in the body the enzymes that regulate everything from liver function to the immune system are proteases, or proteolytic enzymes, which regulate protein function in the body. |

Low Enzyme Levels Linked to Chemical Intolerance...
If one has a much lower level than normal of the enzymes involved in detoxification of any given stimuli , then one will have a lower tolerance to the stimuli. |

Enzymes, Spider Veins and Scar Tissue...
Enzymes strengthen blood vessel walls and open micro circulation passages clogged with fibrin improving circulation overall. Enzymes also control the rate and accuracy of healing. They speed healing without allowing the build up of scar tissue. |
