DIETARY MINERALS
Minerals are the building blocks of life and are involved in all processes of the body. Dietary minerals are the chemical elements required by living organisms. A mineral deficiency often results in an illness or deficiency disease. There are two kinds of minerals: macrominerals and trace minerals. Macrominerals are minerals your body needs in larger amounts. Trace minerals are those only needed in small amounts.

Dietary mineral supplements are available in a multitude of forms, including capsules, pills, tablets, powders and liquids. For many reasons, liquid minerals are the preferred format for dietary supplements. Liquid minerals are the most accessible form for the body, as they are more quickly and easily absorbed and used. Liquid minerals do not need to be dissolved and digested like supplements in a pill form. Liquid minerals do not contain the fillers and binder ingredients that pills need to maintain their pill format. Liquid minerals are easier to swallow than large pills, or large quantities of pills. Liquid minerals are easily mixed with fruit and vegetable juices for added nutrition when supplementing.

There are different terms that are used to describe liquid minerals: colloidal, angstrom, ionic. A colloid is a mixture of particles of one substance that are dispersed evenly throughout another substance in a suspension. Colloid particles are substantially larger than atoms and ordinary molecules. The particles do not dissolve readily, nor do they settle out under gravity. They do not pass easily through cell membranes. An angstrom is simply a unit of length equal to 0.1 nanometer or 1 x 10-10 metres (there are 10 billion of these in a meter). An ion is an individual atom or molecule where the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving it a net positive or negative electrical charge.

DIETARY MINERALS AND THEIR FUNCTION IN THE BODY
ESSENSE-OF-LIFE.COM CARRIES THE FOLLOWING DIETARY MINERALS IN LIQUID IONIC ANGSTROM FORM
+ BORON Boron enhances the body’s ability to absorb calcium and magnesium. It may also promote beneficial levels of estrogen and testosterone in healthy post-menopausal women and help convert vitamin D to its active form, supporting the absorption of calcium.*

+ CALCIUM Calcium performs numerous vital functions in the body. It combines with phosphorus to strengthen bones and is crucial for nerve conduction, muscle contraction and heartbeat. Calcium also helps prevent cramps brought on by exercise by avoiding lactic acid buildup.*

+ CESIUM Cesium is one of the most alkaline elements. When taken up by cancer cells, it raises the pH of the cell. A pH range of 8.0 is a deadly invironment for cancer cells. The cells die and are absorbed and eliminated by the body.*

+ CHROMIUM Chromium is essential to the metabolism of lipids, glucose and insulin. It promotes healthy glucose tolerance and helps regulate sugar levels in the body. Chromium also aids in the breakdown and distribution of proteins and carbohydrates.*

+ COBALT Cobalt is a mineral required by the body for blood formation. It is an integral part of Vitamin B12 (cobalamin), a vitamin essential for producing red blood cells and maintaining the nervous system. Cobalt activates several metabolic enzymes and is necessary for myelin formation (an insulating layer found around nerves) and thyroid hormone production, supports red blood cell production, and is essential for the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates, the synthesis of proteins, the production of DNA and RNA, and the conversion of folate to its active form. Cobalt is used to treat anaemia with pregnant women, because it stimulates the production of red blood cells. It is also used by athletes to increase the oxygen-carrying ability of the blood.*

+ COPPER Copper is heavily involved in the production of hemoglobin. It is also involved in the production of colagen, the protein responsible for the integrity of bone, cartilege, skin and tendon, and elastin, a major component of large blood vessels.*

+ GERMANIUM Germanium improves oxygen flow to tissures, boosting circulation, which improves stamina and endurance. it also has antioxidant properties.*

+ GOLD Gold is thought to have a chelation effect on free radicals.*

+ INDIUM Researchers have identified over 40 health problems which the evidence indicates are really a deficiency of the natural trace element Indium. Studies have shown that Indium helps improve the absorption of essential trace elements - such as copper, manganese, chromium, copper and zinc - in the body.Indium’s most important function is normalization of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Indium can also reduce intra-ocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma. A study on mice showed 42% less cancer and malignant tumors with Indium supplementation. Indium helps replenish hormone levels that naturally start to fall with age. Indium can improve short-term memory.

+ IODINE Iodine is crucial for the health of the thyroid gland and is essential for the production of two key hormones that help regulate a host of body processes including resting metabolic rate, heart rate, heat production and energy levels.*

+ IRON Iron is a key component of hemoglobin. It is involved in the entire process of respiration. Iron is also a component of enzymes within immune cells that chew up foreign substances.*

+ LITHIUM Lithium is an essential mineral that protects brain cells against excess glutamate and calcium, and low levels cause abnormal brain cell balance and neurological disturbances.  Lithium also is important in Vit-B12 transport and distribution. Studies have found low lithium levels common in learning disabled children, incarcerated violent criminals, and people with heart disease. Prescription lithium is used to treat manic-depressive (bipolar) illness by controlling the manic (excited) phase and by reducing the frequency and severity of depression. Lithium is the most studied treatment for depression – even more than antidepressants. *

+ MAGNESIUM Magnesium is essential for every major biological process. It is necessary for 300+ enzymatic reactions and is vital for calcium metabolism. Magnesium is not a trace mineral, but a major entity in our bodies.*

+ MANGANESE Manganese is involved in protein, fat and energy metabolism. It's primary function, though, is as an antioxidant. Manganese is an essential part of biochemical reactions that affect bone, cartilage and brain function.*

+ MOLYBDENUM

+ PALLADIUM

+ PHOSPHORUS Phosphorus is the body's source of phosphate, which helps create and manage energy, synthesize protein, fat and carbohydrates, contract muscles, and maintain the body's PH. It is also essential for stimulating hormone production and helping the body utilize the B vitamins. It combines with calcium to help form the latticework for strong bones and teeth. Over 80% of the body’s phosphorus is located in bone.*

+ PLATINUM Platinum has been linked to increasing mental alertness and energy, helping nerve and muscle function, and promoting immune system health.*

+ POTASSIUM Potassium is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses that provide smooth coordinated muscle movement. Potassium also helps widen the blood vessels during exercise, thereby increasing blood flow to help carry away heat, and it is used to convert blood glucose to glycogen.*

+ SELENIUM Selenium is an essential trace mineral required by the body in small quantities. It is also a potent antioxidant. Selenium is necessary for proper calcium and vitamin C metabolism, helps convert blood sugar into energy, decreases platelet aggregation and helps promote cardiovascular health.*

+ SILICA Silica is an element required for the proper functioning of the enzyme prolyhydroxylase. This enzyme functions in the formation of: collagen in bone, cartilage, and connective tissue. Silica is also a natural diuretic.*

+ SILVER Silver is a powerfully effective all natural antibiotic, disinfectant, and germ fighter: it kills bacteria, fungus, and viral infections.*

+ SODIUM Sodium is an electrolyte that helps maintain water balance in the body. Due to its electrical charge, sodium passes back and forth between cell membranes, carrying nutrients (such as glucose) in and carrying waste products out. It also plays a key role in regulating blood pressure and heartbeat.*

+ STRONTIUM Strontium is a trace element closely chemically related to calcium and both utilize the same carrier protein for transport. Strontium has both anabolic (bone building) effects and anti-resorption (anti-depleting) effects, and thus may have significant beneficial effects on bone balance.*

+ SULFUR Sulfur is an essential component of biotin, thiamin and pantothenic acid. It is found in all skin and connective tissue and is vital for the growth of hair and nails. Sulfur plays an important role in energy metabolism, insulin production and hormone synthesis.*

+ VANADIUM Vanadium plays a role in cellular metabolism, the formation of bones and teeth, reproduction, and growth. It also inhibits cholesterol synthesis.Vanadium may help maintain healthy glucose and lipid metabolism.

+ ZINC Zinc is required for the production of both RNA and DNA, the basic building blocks of the body. It assists the body in making the 200+ enzymes and is essential in the development and continuous normal functioning of the central nervous system. Zinc also plays a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.*

MORE INFORMATION ON MINERALS
01. Liquid Vs. Pills...
Liquids are more completely and quickly absorbed than most capsules and pills. The Physician's Desk Reference states that 85-90% of nutrients in liquid supplements are absorbed in 22 to 30 seconds. Compare this to hours it takes for the nutrients in pills to be absorbed by the body. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that only 10%-20% of the nutrients in pills actually are absorbed. A key element in the manufacturing process of many vitamin pills and capsules is the use of heat, imitation or synthetic chemical nutrients, and chemical solvents.
02. Colloidal and Ionic Minerals: The Difference is in the Absorption
In a colloid form, the minerals are evenly distributed throughout the medium in which they are suspended. Minerals in this colloid state are held in large, organized patterns, whereby they remain in suspension without settling out. Ionic minerals are comprised of atoms or collections of atoms that retain their intrinsic electric charge, either positive or negative. This electrical charge exists surrounding the atom because it is either missing an electron or has additional electrons within it’s surrounding area. When the body absorbs ionized, or electrically charged minerals, they can be readily absorbed through our selectively permeable intestinal membranes. The membranes lining our intestinal tract maintain their own specific electrical charge in the form of ionic receptors.
03. Dietary Minerals on Wikipedia...
Dietary minerals are the chemical elements required by living organisms. The dietary focus on minerals derives from an interest in supporting biochemical reactions with the required elemental components. Appropriate intake levels of certain chemical elements are thus required to maintain optimal health.
04. Minerals on MedLine Plus...
There are two kinds of minerals: macrominerals and trace minerals. Macrominerals are minerals your body needs in larger amounts. Your body needs just small amounts of trace minerals.
05. Colloids on Wikipedia...
A colloid is a type of mixture where one substance is dispersed evenly throughout another. The particles of the dispersed substance are only suspended in the mixture, unlike a solution where they are completely dissolved within. This occurs because the particles in a colloid are larger than in a solution – small enough to be dispersed evenly and maintain a homogenous appearance, but large enough to scatter light and not dissolve.
06. Colloids on Answers.com...
Substance consisting of particles that, although too tiny to be seen with the unaided eye (typically 1 nanometre to 10 micrometres), are substantially larger than atoms and ordinary molecules The particles do not dissolve readily, nor do they settle out under gravity. Colloids have a high capacity for binding with water and other substances. They do not pass easily through cell membranes.
07. Angstrom on Wikipedia...
An angstrom is a unit of length equal to 0.1 nanometre or 1 x 10-10 metres (there are 10 billion of these in a metre).
08. Angstrom Info...
An angstrom is a unit of length used to measure small things such as the wavelengths of light, atoms and molecules. Ten billion angstroms equal 1 meter.
09. Ionic Bonds on Wikipedia...
An ion is an atom or molecule where the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving it a net positive or negative electrical charge.
