Crohn's Disease is characterized by chronic ulceration and inflammation of the digestive tract caused by the immune system attacking the lining of the gut. The inflammation narrows the digestive tract resulting in severe pain during digestion and constant uncontrolable diarrhea. Symptoms include chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, bleeding, nausea, and loss of energy, appetite, and weight.
Crohn's Disease is similar to ulcerative colitis. The main difference is that ulcerative colitis only affects the first two layers of the lining of the central digestive passageway, while Crohn's disease also affects the next two layers and the muscular and connective tissue layers.*
