About Flax
Flax, whose Latin name means "most useful", is one of the most ancient of herbs and was highly valued for its medicinal properties.

The essential fatty acids in flaxseed oil have been proven to help prevent heart disease, improve skin and hair, aid in cell production, and aid in weight reduction, as well as other health benefits. But hidden within the thin hull surrounding the flaxseed is a compound that may surpass flax oil – SDG lignan (secoisolariciresinol diglucoside).

Lignans are a group of phytonutrients (plant nutrients) which are found in seeds, grains and vegetables. Flax seed hulls are the richest source of plant lignans, containing 800 mcg/g compared to the 2-6 mcg/g found in other sources of lignans. The oil has little or no lignans.


Up until recent times, SDG existed in such small concentrations that its unique biological properties were unknown. Modern extraction methods have brought to light their tremendous health benefits. The SDG lignan has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties, is a potent antioxidant, has been shown to enhance immune system functioning, and is a phytoestrogen (mimics the hormone estrogen). In addition, these lignans have shown such extraordinary potential that they have been studied by the National Cancer Institute for their cancer preventative properties.

Several flax oil products claim to contain lignans, but testing these products reveals that they contain practically no lignans at all. Lignans are not in the oil. Another label claim is "20% lignan particulates", which only means that 20% of the product is made up of pieces of the flax fiber shell which contains the lignans. Flax fiber meal consists of just 1.6 % lignans and would only settle to the bottom of a liquid formula. Products claiming "up to 30% more lignans than whole flax seed" just consist of defatted flax fiber with no oil, which, as stated above, has a maximum content of 1.6% lignans. Label claiming lignan content, such as "800 times more lignans than other plants sources" sound impressive but don't say how little lignan there really is in flax seed.

Separating SDG lignan from flaxseed has been difficult because the hull, which contains the lignan, adheres tightly to the seed, and, therefore, it has not been economically viable to obtain a pure product. Some methods use chemicals to extract the SDG, but trace amounts leech into the lignans. Other methods exist but have a low yield. But finally a new revolutionary and highly proprietary process has been developed to provide the highest possible all natural concentration of SDG containing flax seed lignans.

An increase in free radicals, introduced through an unhealthy diet, fried foods, radiation exposure and environmental pollutants, are a known cause of disease. The antioxidants which counteract free radicals, Vitamins A, C, and E and phytochemicals, are not able to keep up with the increase, making the balance between intake of antioxidants and exposure to free radicals the balance between health and disease, or life and death.

Test results have shown that SDG acts as an antioxidant more potent than Vitamin E. The higher the concentration of SDG, the greater the antioxidant effect.

A controlled study by the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre, Perth, Australia concluded that "there is a substantial reduction in breast cancer risk among women with high intake (as measured in excretion) of phytoestrogens, particularly the isoflavonic phytoestrogen equol and the lignan enterolactone".

Lignans like SDG in flaxseed are called phytoestrogens because they resemble the female hormone estrogen and they attach to the same receptors on the cells where estrogen would, thus reducing estrogen's effects by displacing it from the cells. This estrogen displacement can help prevent those cancers, such as breast cancer, that depend on estrogen to develop.


What is in SDG-35?
SDG Flax Lignans contains 90% pure flax seed lignans and 10% flax seed oil, all organically produced and delivered in vegetarian capsules. Flax lignans, also known as plant polyphenols, contain secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) in a concentration 75 to 800 times greater than the amount found in other vegetarian foods. In addition, SDG Flax Lignans contain significant numbers and amounts of amino acids. They are the building blocks of protein.

SDG Flaxseed Lignans are very concentrated. Just one gram (2 capsules) of contains more SDG than 70 grams of flax seed. The unique extraction/concentration process used to create it ensures a consistent, high quality product that has no equal. We believe SDG Flax Lignans contains by far the highest concentration of SDG when compared to any other natural product in the marketplace. In addition, all of the essential amino acids, as well as many other amino acids, are present in proper proportion to each other. A deficiency in essential amino acids can lead to a number of physical and mental disorders.


SDG-35 Blend
Secoisolariciresinol Diglucoside (SDG) is a plant lignan (polyphenol) found in its highest concentration in flax seeds. This compound has demonstrated significant health benefits. Studies of SDG's impact on diabetes, lupus, multiple sclerosis, cancer and heart disease including high cholesterol, high blood pressure and atherosclerosis are ongoing and have produced very positive results.*

ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS
Arginine causes retardation of tumors and cancer, aids in liver detoxification and assists in the release of growth hormones and maintenance of a healthy immune system. Arginine helps increase production of collagen, stimulates production of muscle mass and reduces body fat.*

Histidine is instrumental in growth and repair of tissue and helpful in the treatment of allergies, arthritis and anemia.*

Isoleucine is needed for hemoglobin formation and the stabilization and regulation of blood sugar and energy levels.*
