Multiple Sclerosis...
Updated: Friday, January 12, 2007
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic degenerative disease in which gradual destruction of the myelin sheath protecting the nerves occurs in patches throughout the brain or spinal cord, affecting transmission of electrical signals to nerve cells and causing muscular weakness and loss of coordination. It is a disease found only in humans which seems to affect more women than men and usually appears between the ages of 15-45.
It is thought to be triggered when immune cells are able to pass through the normally impenatrable blood brain barrier into the central nervous system and begin to attack the myelin. The blood brain barrier may be compromised because of an earlier broad spectrum immune reaction that damaged it while in the process of attacking other foreign matter.
A major factor in some cases of multiple sclerosis may be a diet that includes foods that cause immune reactions in some people predisposed to MS, such as wheat, milk, eggs, and foods high in saturated fats. Other causes may include chemical poisoning, bacteria and viruses. Aspartame "poisoning" and Lyme Disease symptoms may mimic those of multiple sclerosis.
In addition, many people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis have malabsorption problems, meaning their body has problems getting the minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients out of the food they eat.

Multiple Sclerosis, (12) Sjogren's Syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroiditis and Crohn's disease have all been linked with low vitamin D levels... [more]
When mice...began to show the first signs of the disease, they were divided into two groups: one group was given vitamin D while the other was not. After 40 days, the group given vitamin D showed few symptoms, while the untreated mice were completely paralyzed. When researchers discontinued the vitamin D supplementation in the first group, the mice quickly acquired symptoms of paralysis... [more]

The following MINERALS may be beneficial for... MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS!
|
+ CALCIUM Calcium performs numerous vital functions in the body. It combines with phosphorus to strengthen bones and is crucial for nerve conduction, muscle contraction and heartbeat. Calcium also helps prevent cramps brought on by exercise by avoiding lactic acid buildup.* |
+ COPPER
Copper is heavily involved in the production of hemoglobin. It is also involved in the production of colagen, the protein responsible for the integrity of bone, cartilege, skin and tendon, and elastin, a major component of large blood vessels.* |
+ GERMANIUM
Germanium improves oxygen flow to tissures, boosting circulation, which improves stamina and endurance. it also has antioxidant properties.* |
+ IODINE
Iodine is crucial for the health of the thyroid gland and is essential for the production of two key hormones that help regulate a host of body processes including resting metabolic rate, heart rate, heat production and energy levels.* |
+ MAGNESIUM
Magnesium is essential for every major biological process. It is necessary for 300+ enzymatic reactions and is vital for calcium metabolism. Magnesium is not a trace mineral, but a major entity in our bodies.* |
+ MANGANESE
Manganese is involved in protein, fat and energy metabolism. It's primary function, though, is as an antioxidant. Manganese is an essential part of biochemical reactions that affect bone, cartilage and brain function.* |
+ PHOSPHORUS Phosphorus is the body's source of phosphate, which helps create and manage energy, synthesize protein, fat and carbohydrates, contract muscles, and maintain the body's PH. It is also essential for stimulating hormone production and helping the body utilize the B vitamins. It combines with calcium to help form the latticework for strong bones and teeth. Over 80% of the bodys phosphorus is located in bone.* |
+ POTASSIUM
Potassium is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses that provide smooth coordinated muscle movement. Potassium also helps widen the blood vessels during exercise, thereby increasing blood flow to help carry away heat, and it is used to convert blood glucose to glycogen.* |
+ SELENIUM
Selenium is an essential trace mineral required by the body in small quantities. It is also a potent antioxidant. Selenium is necessary for proper calcium and vitamin C metabolism, helps convert blood sugar into energy, decreases platelet aggregation and helps promote cardiovascular health.* |
+ SILVER
Silver is a powerfully effective all natural antibiotic, disinfectant, and germ fighter: it kills bacteria, fungus, and viral infections.* |
+ SULFUR
Sulfur is an essential component of biotin, thiamin and pantothenic acid. It is found in all skin and connective tissue and is vital for the growth of hair and nails. Sulfur plays an important role in energy metabolism, insulin production and hormone synthesis.* |
+ ZINC Zinc is required for the production of both RNA and DNA, the basic building blocks of the body. It assists the body in making the 200+ enzymes and is essential in the development and continuous normal functioning of the central nervous system. Zinc also plays a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.* |

|
The following VITAMINS may be beneficial for... MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS!
|
+ CHOLINE
Choline aids in fat and cholesterol metabolism, hormone production, and fat and cholesterol metabolism. Choline is necessary for nerve impulse transmission: without choline, memory and other brain functions are impaired.* |
+ COBALAMINE (B12) Vitamin B12 |
+ COQ10
Co-Q10 |
+ INOSITOL
Inositol |
+ PYRODOXINE (B6)
Vitamin B6 |
+ VITAMIN A (& CAROTENOIDS)
Vitamin A helps prevent eye disorders, skin disorders like acne, cancer, colds, influenza and other infections. It enhances immunity and acts as an antioxidant. Vitamin A is needed for skin and mucous membrane health, bone and teeth formation, and protein utilization. It helps slow the aging process.* |
+ VITAMIN B COMPLEX
The B vitamins promote healthy nerves, skin, eyes, hair, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and brain function. The B vitamins are also coenzymes involved in energy production. B Complex is important for elderly people and a deficiency can mimic Alzheimer's disease.* |
+ VITAMIN C (ASCORBIC ACID)
Vitamin C performs hundreds of functions in the body. It is crucial for the production of antibodies, strengthens connective tissues, helps reduce the duration and severity of a cold, assists with wound healing, and protects other vitamins from oxidation.* |
+ VITAMIN D
Vitamin D helps the intestines absorb and use calcium and phosphorus, regulates heartbeat, develops bones and teeth in children, prevents and treats osteoporosis, and is necessary for blood clotting and thyroid function. |
+ VITAMIN E Vitamin E |
+ VITAMIN K Vitamin K is aids in blood clotting, bone formation and repair, and converting glucose into glycogen.* |

+ ACIDOPHILUS Acidophilus |
+ CHLOROPHYLL
Chlorophyll |
+ ENZYMES
Enzymes |
| + EVENING PRIMROSE |
| + GINKO BILOBA |
| + GLUTAMINE |
+ GRAPE SEED EXTRACT
Grape seed extract has been recognized as one of the most powerful antioxidants, containing natural free radical scavengers and bioflavinoid complexes that are rapidly absorbed and distributed throughout the body. It has also been shown to promote healthy cholesterol levels and promote a healthy cardiovascular system. |
+ OMEGA 3 ESSENTIAL FATTY ACID Essential Fatty Acids are the basic building blocks of fats and oils and must come from the diet as they cannot be manufactured by the body. Some of the Omega 3 EFA's include linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids. |
