01. Amplitude
Amplitude Control Description This is the hardware description. It is concerned with the basic operation of the amplitude knob. For session control of amplitude, regarding safety during use, see Rife Therapy. Rife Therapy has several pages of information concerning safety and use of this control during a therapeutic session.
Amplitude is the control you use to increase the amount of power you receive during a session. You can change up or down as needed at any time. Although it works like any volume control (turn clockwise to increase), it is very different in some important ways. Unlike a stereo volume control, Original Style Rife Equipment uses a 10 turn potentiometer, ten times finer than most audio amplifiers. This provides the user a much needed gradient that is refined and steady. Sometimes control is that critical. Finer-than-needed amplitude control makes for greater ease and safety. To further the cause of safety, you immediately notice that amplitude is adjusted by means of a vernier dial. This dial advances from 0 to 10, which indicates the number of turns presently on the knob. It has the effect of slowing down the speed that the output can be increased, or decreased. It also allows the user to tell at a glance how much output is present. The vernier dial should be turned slowly. The lever on the side of the knob, slides to the right to lock the control. This knob is delicate. All knobs must be protected from being bumped or damaged.
02. Basics
Like a fine antique radio. Original Style Rife Equipment is fully manual. Frequency is tuned by means of two, ten-turn controls, fine and coarse. The Frequency Counter is a separate module, mounted in the front panel. This actually reads the output, and is not integrated into the other sections. Therefore, it is a reading you can trust, and never needs calibration. Polarity can be switched easily during the session. Vacuum tubes get very hot. The back of the machine may become almost too hot to touch. Air filter and exhaust fan keep the circuits cool.
Original Style Rife Equipment uses either 110-120, or 220-250 volts AC. It does not have switching power supplies, which means each machine must be wired for these voltages. The acceptable voltage for each machine is printed on the label at the bottom of the front panel. In the USA, this reads, For 110 VAC Only. Original Style Rife Equipment is a 110-120 volt machine. Original Style Rife Equipment is a 220-250 volt machine. Depending on the application of the frequency instrument and the electric power at the location in which it is used, the purchaser is strongly cautioned to CAREFULLY read this manual and decide if the unit is going to need an AUXILIARY GROUND WIRE. This must be determined again any time the unit is used in a new location, even when it is moved from one room to another in the same building. For applications in the laboratory, home electronics projects, or other uses where greater precision is required, or when used with an amplifying device, an auxiliary ground wire is highly recommended. There are four ranges from which to choose, each is 10 times the frequency potential of the one before it. Each Range has it's own settings, but all are adjusted by means of the same set of controls. This means that if you are set at 330, and you turn the range switch up one notch, the output will instantly change to 3,300, approximately. Abrupt changes in frequency output is sometimes uncomfortable and can be avoided easily by reducing the output power before changing range settings.
03. Binding Post
In the past, we have found that there are many needs for the machine where housing is substandard. These often do not have
adequate grounding. Emergency and Third World use of the machine have always forced us to provide a binding post for grounding purposes. Although new Original Style Rife Equipment machines will function safely even without a ground, it is strongly recommended that the machine is provided proper ground. Early, non-upgraded Original Style Rife Equipment instruments however, still need to be grounded in order for the output signal to be reliable. They are dangerous without adequate ground. The power light on all early machines will flicker or will not light up if ground is not present. Rife's original machines were not grounded, and for that reason, were fairly dangerous. This is no longer a major concern in new Original Style Rife Equipment. The binding post may also be used to create a negative probe. Users:see Rife Therapy for details.
The Binding Post is located on the top of the unit and is provided for easy, quick connection to ground, when no grounded outlet is available. It has a cap that unscrews far enough to expose the post it's self, but the cap is not intended to come off. The post, is a steel stud, with a small hole bored through it to accept a bare wire. You would then tighten the cap to secure. You may have to use the ground site that was intended for your house current. This is usually a clamp that holds a heavy solid core wire to a water pipe. They are sometimes soldered directly to the pipe, and they are not always easy to find. Have an electrician add your ground wire to the clamp if that is convenient, but be sure that the contact areas are cleaned and any wire that was already there, is replaced and re-clamped carefully. Another, often easier method of creating a guaranteed ground, is to use the GROUNDING SPADE, not provided. A suitable hole must be bored and tapped to accept a machine screw, 440 is okay for a trowel, larger for a shovel or garden spade. The advantage to using a spade, is that you can easily remove it, when you move your unit, and it will work in most locations. The disadvantage to using a spade is that your soil must be thoroughly dampened, and if you move your unit around quite a lot, it may be a problem for some people to handle. An alternative to the spade, is to clamp the wire to a water pipe. To do this, you must be absolutely sure that it is a water pipe. No PVC pipe (plastic).(Sounds dumb, but it has to be said) NEVER GROUND TO A GAS PIPE. If you are using insulated wire, strip 1/2 inch at one end. Insert this end into the hole in the binding post, and lock down by tightening the cap.
04. Counter
The backlit LCD counter will count the precise frequency to the nearest whole number and display a new count in intervals of 0.1seconds. When the counter reads 3, the number of output pulses per second will be three hertz. When the counter reads 2000, the number of pulses per second will be two thousand. The output SIGNAL is analog. The displays are digital. This display is not able to read fractions of hertz. Output is capable of approx. .00001 of a hertz in range A. For greater tuning accuracy, use an external, high accuracy counter.
This COUNTER has a TOTALIZING feature: Totalizing is not used in this application. The COUNTER is normally used on R mode (real time). Press the SEL button to toggle or change to totalizing, RST to reset the display. Press SEL again to return to R mode.
The quality of the counter is superb. It is different from most counters on devices of this kind because it is not integrated into the machine circuitry. It is a separate unit that is modified to read the output correctly and mounted in the front panel. In other words, the frequency reading is not what the machine thinks it is, it is what the counter reads from the output. It is very reliable, and will not ever need calibrating. Range: 0-14khz
05. Engineering Report
Original Style Rife Equipment comes with detail. It is reasonable to expect a report of this kind when you have a piece of custom electronics made for yourself. It says what you are getting, and can be important to your safe use and understanding of the machine. A new Engineering Report is generated anytime you have your machine repaired, inspected or upgraded at the factory. New Engineering Reports are required for used machines to qualify for rent, lease or re-sale.
The Engineering Report reflects the findings of the final output test for the specific device at the factory. It reflects the output parameters according to each range, in frequency, volts and amps of the machine when it was tested at the factory. This forces the test engineers to course through all the working surfaces and contacts in the machine in order to locate and eliminate flaws. If for any reason you suspect that the machine is not operating properly, you can refer to this as a means of double checking. The readings should be approximately correct. If they are far out of the range, then this may indicate an internal problem, and should be returned to the factory for repair.
Each Original Style Rife Equipment Engineering Report is a real, technical report, and pertains to one machine by serial number only. It is referred to anytime your machine needs repair. Do not lose this report. Any repair or technical person who uses or repairs this machine will benefit from this document. It is best to keep it with your printed Owner's Manual, provided with all Original Style Rife Equipment.
06. Experimental Use
It's your experiment. Original Style Rife Equipment is designed for experimental purposes only. There are no medical claims made by the manufacturers. The PURCHASER assumes all liability for damages, and any other personal injury incurred by any person allowed to operate this device. Always follow basic introductory cautions and proceedures to assure safety. These help establish a reliable starting point. These may be a reference point again for users, as they progress. Simple home litmus tests often are all that are needed to confirm and meter sessions, because most results are very obvious.
There is something inheirantly dubious about home experiments. Most people who want to participate in experiments of this kind, lack the ability to create, or recreate conditions unless they have an understanding of what has been done in the past. The traditional applications we provide are basic operating procedures that have been in use for about 60 years. They are a reliable guide that seem to provide all the essential elements of previous experiments that were reportedly successful. In the many years we have been getting reports from Original Style Rife Equipment users, virtually all are satisfied that the machine and the information associated with it, is accurate and performs as expected. Only if these standards are present does the home experiment really work. The major approaches and methods must be previously established and highly reliable in order for the personal experiment to validly provide results that can be easily observed as effective for that person, or not... We feel it is our duty, in the interests of providing a full disclosure, that each customer be provided these basics. We try to provide as much safety information and cautions as possible. In this way we feel we can contribute to our users success. To enjoy the confidence in our Machine they need, they are more likely to persue their goals in a robust fashion.
07. Frequency
The Therapeutic Range. Original Style Rife Equipment more than covers the entire range of useful frequency.
Range Control
A four position switch spans the range, and splits it into four parts, A, B, C and D to enable finer tuning.
Coarse
Adjusts quickly from one target frequency to another within a given range, A, B, C or D.
Fine
Precision scrolling across target frequency boundaries.
It is normal for the frequency to take a few seconds to settle down after the device has been turned on. Let the unit warm up. During the first few moments after being turned on, it is like a computer booting up, and is not yet in a normal working mode. Be sure that the machine has been turned on before beginning a new session. Frequencies are more stable toward the low end of each Range. The output is inherently unstable compared to digital. The waver, or wander of frequency visible on the counter, is most noticeable in range D. This is normal. Measured from peak to peak on a scope, the wave form of frequency signal is neither square nor sinusoidal. It is the same wave form that Rife used. Some variations in frequency parameters from one Original Style Rife Equipment to another is due to the slightest differences between identical parts in each machine. These characteristics are identical in most ways to Rife's most successful transducers. We have added improvements in tuning and control. These variables are thought to be key elements in the efficacy of the early therapy. They happen to be elements that are all but impossible to mimic by digital means.
08. Fuse Holder
Better safety, longer life. Although they are not a common item for most electronics you buy in the USA, fuses are built into many common items in other countries. The fuse primarily prevents fire, but it also can help protect the components from being burned or damaged due to a bad wall outlet or faulty power cord. It also helps protect the user from some danger.
Basic safety fuse. Brown outs, power outages, and other interruptions in main power can cause this fuse to blow, causing a short circuit that prevents power from reaching the unit. It is very simple to replace the fuse. The fuse holder is located on the right-hand side, has a quick release cap that is depressed while turning counter clockwise to remove, and clockwise to replace. It holds a 2.5 AMP fuse. Do NOT try to inspect the fuse while the instrument is running. Never use anything in the fuse holder except a correct fuse. Every part of the machine is important in some way. Do not attempt to defeat built in safeguards. If the fuse needs replacing, be sure to obtain the right part before attempting a session.
09. Handling
Original Style Rife Equipment is a newly manufactured antique. Hand constructed, it is very different from modern electronic appliances. It employs electron tubes, which means that is it not solid state. There are parts inside that may break if the device is handled roughly. Abuse is not covered by the warranty. Parts and labor charges, plus shipping will apply when a machine fails through no fault of Original Style Rife Equipment. See: Warranty. As with any piece of home electronics, humidity and water can damage the equipment. Do not expose to excessive heat or dust. Although the unit can be stood up on one end for easy carrying, it is designed to be supported by the folding stand on the bottom of the unit. NEVER block the cooling fan. To do so may result in the unit overheating, and cause severe damage to internal components. The fan uses a dry bearing, and must not be oiled. If the fan should become noisy, it may need to be checked for dust or debris which may become lodged there. Do not allow the device to rest on it's knobs. See: Unpacking
To clean the device, wipe with a soft dry cloth. If it becomes very soiled, apply a small amount of household window cleaner, or electronics cleaner to the cloth to remove dirt and fingerprints. Alcohol or more powerful chemicals will damage the label and other plastic parts. Should the power cord become damaged or lost, you can replace it with any (US) computer power cord. Specialty leads can be adapted from stereo and microphone cabling for recording sessions to be used with spectral devices such as Model A and related types. All approved electrode pads and other useful accessories are available.
10. Unpacking
Hand packaged this way, it is helpful to know a little bit about what's inside, and how it's been done, when you are unpacking it for the first time. The courier can only insure against their own faults. When sending a machine to, or from, us, we always go to the trouble to pack the Original Style Rife Equipment the correct way, to assure no damage occurs in shipping. It is important to unpack the machine with care. Original Style Rife Equipment packing is designed to doubly protect the instrument, doubly assuring that you don't have to send it back as damaged. Unpacking is a little more trouble. If possible, make a note of any obvious damage to the carton upon arrival. Notify the courier of any deformations of the carton which might have caused damage to the contents, before they leave the door, if possible. If the box rattles, refuse it. Original Style Rife Equipment is packed very tight when it is sent to you, nothing should rattle unless it has been broken. Original Style Rife Equipment is very rarely damaged as a result of mishandling before it reaches you, because of the way it is packed. A small knife and scissor, are all the tools you need to unpack. Clear a table to make it easier. Place the box on the table to begin.
Use a knife to open the cartons. Inside the inner box, you will find a bundle that looks something like this. Original Style Rife Equipment is wrapped four times in a continuous sheet of bubblewrap. Use scissors to cut the tape, and allow the wrap to unroll. Move the machine with care, take the time to find the tape joints and cut them. This is far easier and safer than trying to cut the bubblewrap. There are three bundles in the smaller carton. The machine, the kit, and a book. Check contents to be sure you have them. Bubblewrap removed. If there is a plastic film on the front panel, it will come off easily. Remove it by peeling it off.
11. Intake Filter
Safety and long machine life are some of the improvements we have added to the original Rife transducer, of which the air intake filter is a part. The sides of the element screen are flexible enough for tabs to clear the frame, and facilitates the removal of the filter for cleaning. Do not attempt to remove the mounting screws.
The air intake is designed to flow about twice the capacity of the cooling fan. This cooling is essential to the continued life of the instrument. It must not be blocked during operation. The prop-stand on the back of the device and the location of the power cord receptacle tend to prevent this blockage. Should the unit overheat, it may discolor the front panel, indicating that the unit needs an inspection at the factory. Turnaround time on simple repairs is 24 hours, or one working day, normally. Plus shipping time. The filter element can be removed and washed if it becomes clogged with dust. Use mild soap and water. Blot with sponge, allow to dry. Replace with care. Be sure the foam filter is dry before attempting to re-install.
12. Introduction
Using the machine is first dominated by cautions until the user has established the proper rythm for sessions. Most conventionl clinical tests that do not account for the effects of the therapy will be invalid. Users must stop at least three days prior to any doctor, hospital or clinical tests, if the effects of the therapy are not considered. Failure to observe the 3 day rule will result in errors. The first clue. Viral load may double in test, while the user shows actual, visible improvement. Anti-bodies may greatly inrease along with detritus of devitalized virus and bacteria. In some tests, this will be detectable or measurable.
This machine is very stable for analog. The drift at 10,000 HZ is less than 1 HZ. However, it does possess the normal drift in frequency output, as it should be. Usually, these systems stabilize further after about 2 years of normal use. The Frequency Counter will only try to count up to about 13,500 before it starts to zero out or locks up. This is normal. If you tune the machine to a frequency that the counter cannot read, the reading may appear erratic, however the output is not. This indicates that the frequency is set outside the operating range for the digital DISPLAY. Nothing more. The frequency will usually tend to drift upwards as the elements heat up. It is sometimes a little tricky to adjust through a specific range manually, but the idea is to use the natural drift as the modulator by leaving the adjustment set slightly above or below the exact number, and allowing drift to augment fine adjustments through the desired number. Drift will be more noticeable at higher frequency settings. Frequency in some installations may tend to slip a little when you are in the field, within 4 inches or so, of the machine. You may notice that the display will show a variation when you reach for the controls. This makes it a bit tricky but this can't be helped. Move the knob a little at a time, and withdraw your arm/hand from the body of the machine each time, to read the setting. May take a little practice.

Does the Machine kill viruses? Most users believe that the day will come when it is generally accepted everywhere in the world. We are forced to believe our customers. It must have the effect of reducing the number of viruses in the sufferer. It follows that the person who experiences this effect will also be less infectious to others. If the Machine kills viruses. Perhaps this explains why, often even a single Original Style Rife Equipment goes such a long way. It must then at times, be of benefit to an an entire community in this way. First time users should not use when experiencing accute symptoms of influenza, or similar disease.
Frequency range and acuity of tuning is not limited to the operating range of the built-in counter, and though a 25 hertz reading will be correct, it will take several turns at least to advance to 26 hertz using the Fine adjustment. Therefore, with an external counter capable of 0.001, you can tune the instrument to 25.001 and so on. The FINE adjustment is at least this precise in range A. If it ever becomes necessary to use specific frequencies as per a special protocol that requires very high accuracy, this machine will likely be able to achieve it. Although it does loose some stability at higher settings, it is capable of extremely fine frequency increments in all ranges, even if they cannot stay completely stable. Be aware that the Original Style Rife Equipment is often far more powerful than the user requires. It delivers optimum power and accuracy. Although it CAN be improved and enhanced, it has never been necessary to do so. To use even more "power" than the stock Original Style Rife Equipment delivers, would clearly exceed safety limits for the average case. Original Style Rife Equipment is not dangerous, but the user is a danger to themselves if they do not respect it for what it does. Failure to follow introductory proceedures for beginning sessions commonly leads to severe toxic reactions, and waves of accute symptoms. In the interests of safety, we suggest new users regard the machine with great respect. After 3 or 4 sessions, toxic reactions are greatly reduced or eliminated for the duration of session courses.
13. Meter
Metered output voltage is an option available for versions 5 and 6 only. Neither of these are currently in production.
Version 3 is the only full power Rife instrument we presently make.
There is no meter on the Version 3.5. There is inadequate room in the case for an extra metering device. The purpose of the meter would be to determine the amount of output that is available depending on the Amplitude setting. This VOLT METER reading has no bearing on the amount of power the user may be receiving at any given time, because that requires an ammeter. An AMMETER will display only the amount of power that is flowing, and will read zero, at any time the leads are not connected to something, regardless of where the Amplitude is set. Both methods of metering the output can be accomplished using a separate device, such as a multi-meter, which is commonly available. The vernier dial on the amplitude serves as an indicator that the output controls are at a certain setting. This dial has 10-turn capability. The dial merely shows when the amplitude is not at zero, and slows down the rotations of the shaft by quite a bit. It is far cheaper than a meter, which doesn't really tell you much. An approximate setting can be repeated by means of the dial. It must be turned slowly in order for it to work properly.
14. Output
Output is voltage at frequency. The amount of it you get is determined by two important things. First, the amplitude dial. It adjusts the total potential of the output. Second, the quality of the contact you have with one or more sets of electrodes. The amount of it you feel, is determined by two things. First, where you place the electrodes. Second, how sensitive the areas of the body are which are closest to the contacts. The average for Original Style Rife Equipment is 80 volts maximum. Enough power to thoroughly treat a horse, it is more than adequate for human use.
The two sets of twin output leads share the same source. Each lead set will deliver the total output (about 1/400th amp) with amplitude at maximum. The full 40 milliamperes will be channeled through one lead set when only one at a time is used. This is huge output for direct application. Huge. If a new user has zero experience with this, and does not know what to expect, it is possible to fail to recognize that output is electric current, and although it is made to be as friendly to your body as possible, it is nevertheless adequate to level you with the floor if you are not careful. In the beginning, most new users will want to avoid giving themselves a big jolt the first time out. After you have gained some tolerance and experience, you will not be frightened by this. And you will understand that you always begin with output at zero. Pay attention to the vernier dial, and remember, that if it is set at 5 turns, there's a forty volt charge on the electrodes. Ramping up from zero, will feel great, but if you make contact suddenly at that setting, it will be a shock, like jumping into cold water. Not harmful really, but not often what you need. Just turn the dial to zero, when ending and beginning every session, and you will have mastered the most hazardous part.
15. Polarity
Benjamin Franklin, often thought of as the discoverer of electricity, suggested that electricity flows positive to negative. In reality, the only source of electrons is the Earth, or ground. Therefore, the real direction of flow is always from ground. Confusing as this is, according to Rife and Crane, the references are according to Franklin. So, this is how the applications read. Since there is nothing that says what your body polarity is, we feel it is wise to use the polarity which seems to work best.
The Original Style Rife Equipment is outfitted with a polarity switch. This literally swaps polarity one for another, between the electrodes. Switching polarity during sessions is another way to improve efficacy, and to deliver a more lethal effect to microbes. Although there is no explanation as to how the user can feel this switch, most people feel the live or "positive" side more than the other. The polarity switch reverses the polarity of the output of all sets of OUTPUT leads. The positive becomes negative and negative becomes the positive side. Lead sets are usually marked red and black. To determine which side of either jack or lead is positive or negative, the side of the jack or the lead that produces the signal (live) will always be the positive side. The other side of that lead set is ground. Polarity Applications are available in the book, The Frequency Instrument, provided with your machine, and available for free on RifeTherapy.com.
16. Power Switch
We have often said that if the machine did not have enough power to hurt, it would not have enough power to do the job. Amplitude is just the machine output, and unless you are irresponsible, shocking yourself this way is not harmful. There is an important difference between the shock you give yourself because you have failed to return the amplitude to zero, before contacting the electrodes. By turning the machine on and off, you might get a real shock, so be sure that you do not make this mistake, as it may be painful.
The main power switch is the red lighted switch on the top of the case, beside the binding post. When this is lighted, the machine is on. Never turn the machine on or off while you have a session going, or have connected yourself to it. Electric shock will result. Always turn on the machine first, set amplitude to zero, then begin by applying your electrodes. Should you find that when you plug in the device, you can hear the cooling fan running, but the red light is out or is very dim, you will need an auxiliary ground wire at that location. If it does not have a good ground it will begin to output dangerous current spikes. See: Trouble Shooting. When the auxiliary ground wire has been added, and the light still does not come on, or is not bright, the device may still be safe to use. (Test output with a separate tester or meter.) This may mean that the electric wiring in that location has reversed polarity. This will not effect the device's output signal. Electric power is not always consistent. It will vary in current and in frequency in different locations, which may effect V3.5 output power, in strength and in other ways. If the machine smokes or smells, or seems to get extremely hot, return immediately for repair. See: Warranty.
17. Power Cord
Original Machines made by Rife and Crane were not grounded. The cords were wrapped in asbestos and in fabric, which was the correct insulation for the time. The dangers and innacuracies of the day were plentiful. Although Rife was able to determine mortal frequencies fairly accurately, it was not possible to tune his Frequency Instrument within 5 of 10 percent of the target number. Electrical safety, like all of his original hardware, was in the dark ages compared to today
The power cord attaches to the machine at the back which makes it impossible to lay the machine flat. This is deliberate, in order to prevent the air intake from being blocked and thus over-heating the machine. This is a 3 pronged appliance cord the same as the ones used for computers.
CAUTION: If the device should perform erratically, or respond slowly, it may not be grounded. If you use an adaptor to make it possible to plug into a two spade household outlet, you must be sure that the adaptor is installed correctly, and the wire or loop that makes the ground circuit is firmly connected. This will not work if the junction box in which the outlet is mounted is, itself, not grounded. Do not assume that simply because you have properly installed an adaptor, that the unit is grounded. Many junction boxes are not grounded, or their grounds have deteriorated over time. When in doubt, use the BINDING POST. If the Power Cord becomes lost damaged, it is easily replaced.
18. Range Switch
Never change ranges during a session unless you reduce power first. When you change ranges a volt meter will show absolutely no change in power. But if you are connected to the machine, it will feel like a shock. It is the shock of sudden frequency change only. The original Rife transducers were controlled in just this same way, and had all the same limitations. It is not the most convenient way to build a machine, but it is quality we are looking for in Original Style Rife Equipment.
A four position switch. The range selector is a switch that changes the frequency potential from low (A) to high (D). The total potential of the four ranges combined varies from one unit to another. This average is approximately 0 to 30,000 + cycles per second, to 0 to 40,000+ cycles per second. Each range is successively overlapping. Range A will produce a maximum frequency that is slightly higher than the lowest frequency of B, and so on. Within this overlap, there exists a slight difference in waveform, where 330 cycles in range C is usually in the low extreme, it is a somewhat different shape from that of 330 on the higher end of B. The 330 signal will have it's best waveform in Range C, on the lower end of the range. So when you ask the question as to which to use, the answer is both, but the squareness is better from the low end of ranges. There is some danger changing ranges during a session, so be sure to follow the instructions carefully. Generally, our Customer Service department will walk you through your first experience, just to be sure you understand how to use the machine safely. This is very important to most users success.
19. Specifications
Original Rife transducers were 35 volts and far less amperage than we use today. The 80 volt Original Style Rife Equipment output is there because we felt that signal erosion, or flattening within deep tissue would seriously reduce efficacy at 35 volts. By doubling the maximum signal strength, it is possible to maintain the waveform much better within deep tumors or anywhere in the body. Safe regulation of this excess power is achieved by the limits of pain. Users will reduce amplitude when it reaches a point where there is significant pain. Just below this is called the comfort level. Rife Therapy describes how to arrive at your comfort level for session use. Therapists need to practice. Arriving at the correct levels for treating others requires considerable experience.
The exact specifications for each instrument are different. The unit is constructed within the correct parameters to fulfill expectations and the purposes for which it was intended. There are variables within the make of each component that cause the total output variation, (a small percentage), from one unit to another. The total frequency potential of each unit will also vary. This is because each unit must be adjusted separately. For most, it is not important that range A reaches a few hertz more on one unit than does is on another. Range settings A through D always overlap, allowing the full range of frequencies. Any changes in application parameters that may become available as the result of future research, will most likely be executable with this device. The device is capable of producing more voltage than is thought to be needed for human or veterinary transcutaneous applications, and can produce frequencies higher than are needed. Veterinarial applications such as bovine and equine, and the wide variation in human stature, demand the maximum tollerable signal strength. IT IS THEREFORE DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN, and must be used at settings appropriate to the individual. Maximum output could cause death to some people if used negligently or inappropriately. The frequency instrument is designed to last for 20 to 30 years or more, and in that time, new things will undoubtedly come to light. The minimum output is set at the factory to under 3 volts. The maximum frequency potential is always set to exceed 20,000 cycles in RANGE D. Any attempt to change internal settings may result in damage to the unit and will not be covered by the warranty.
20. Start-Up
These quick start pages are to quickly familiarize you with the proceedures for first use of the machine. Much of it pertains to everyday considerations for Original Style Rife Equipment, and is an overview of specific points you should cover before you begin. It is generally not necessary to re-check the operating parameters in the Engineering Report, however, many will be compelled to do so. It is strongly recommended that new users read all of the material carefully before the first start-up begins. See: Unpacking
All machines are tested at the factory, and re-inspected by a quality control engineer. In many cases the devices are re-tested subjectively by our customer support personel in order to assure that each device is in perfect working order before it is shipped out. Even in a perfect world, where no errors are possible by assembly or test personel, the device is inheirantly quirky, and sometimes it just takes us a few tries before we get it right. Original Style Rife Equipment is hard to make. Even top U.S. manufacturers and contractors have a tough time with it. Save all original packaging, in case the device has been damaged in shipping or displays any defects. No defects are tollerable in a device of this kind. It is not a stereo. If there is a small crack in a stereo case, it doesn't matter. If Original Style Rife Equipment has a crack in the case it is unsafe to use, and the case must be replaced. Inspect the machine carefully to be sure it has not been cracked in shipping. It is fairly easy to damage the machine as it is being packed or unpacked. If too much stress is placed on the knobs, damage will result. Correct packing will prevent damage during unpacking. If it is necessary to return the machine for repair or replacement, be sure to pack it according to the suggestions in the packing section of this manual. Otherwise, couriers insurance will not cover their shipping damage, if any.
Machines pass through many hands before they are complete. Sometimes a snipping of wire or insluation may be overlooked by technicians. By removing the Air Intake Filter, you can roll the machine till it falls out.
Unpack according to instructions, cut tape carefully when removing bubble wrap. Save everything. ROLL TEST: Once you have the machine out of the wrapping, the leads are tied together, place them on the front of the machine, and hold the machine in both hands. Hold it carefully, high enough to turn it over a few times. If the prop in the back rattles, hold that too. Listen to it. If there sounds like anything larger than a grain of sand is loose inside, the machine may have been damaged in shipping. Inspect for cracks. Some minor imperfections are normal for a hanbuilt machine. If there is a visible crack, do not accept. Return in the original cartons via courier, as damaged, for insurance purposes. If there is nothing loose inside, and there are no cracks, the machine is probably okay.
The new machine should have 3 bubble wrapped packages inside the inner packing carton. These contain a Kit, a Book, and the Machine. The Kit includes the power cord and a tube of conductive gel. The book includes: Engineering Report (and serial number), the Owners Manual and the Application Guide. Be sure you have all these things and check to confirm that the serial numbers match all the documents. A small, white label on the back of the machine case, usually positioned just above the air intake, bears a corresponding serial number for customer use.
Stand it up on a clean, level surface such as a table or counter top. It can temporarily rest on the four grey plastic feet on the bottom side, while you insert the power cord into the back of the unit. You must extend the prop-stand at the back to operate. Original Style Rife Equipment should always be resting on this stand while it is in use. This is to assure air flow through the machine is according to specifications during operation. This also prevents the air intake from being blocked. It may also be operated standing vertical, but the power cord is positioned to discourage it from being operated with long dimension parallel to the ground. However, feet have been added to the back also, so the machine may be stored in the flat position when the power cord is removed. Begin with power off. The red light on top should be dark. Do not untie the leads yet. They should still be coiled. Position the electrode pads so they are not touching anything. Bend the wires enough to guarantee they do not make contact with each other. The pads can also be wrapped in plastic or placed in sandwich bags to prevent them from touching each other accidently.
Only you can tell how much power you should use during any session. Do not attempt to control Amplitude for someone else. The electrode pads are the signal source. Although you cannot hear the signal, if amplitude is turned up, do not attempt to make or break your connection with the machine. Make it a habit to always reduce ampltude to zero before you connect or disconnect yourself. Safety is roughly that of a household hair dryer. It is perfectly safe provided some obvious cautions are observed. Do not touch the machine with wet hands. Do not operate near water. Do not operate in a thunderstorm.
Once all the pads are secured, which is just an extra safety measure for new users, you can begin to set-up the machine for first use. Just be sure the pads do not ground out against each other. To begin a session, turn all four knobs all the way to the left. If you are facing the machine, the top of the knobs towards you is counter-clockwise. This is downward. It is most important to zero out the Amlitude control. The range switch has 4 positions ABC and D. In this instance, it is put in the A position. (They are not marked on the machine.) You may normally begin a session in any range, but for this instance, begin in Range A. Find the red Power Switch, and switch it on. The Power Switch should glow bright red. Listen for the faint hum of the cooling fan. The COUNTER, will momentarily display an error code, in the few monents it takes for the machine to come up. It will then read: R 2 or R 3. This is the normal starting point to familiarize yourself with the behavior of the instrument. This COUNTER has a TOTALIZING feature, that is not used in this application. If the counter is not in R mode. (Real time) Press the SEL button to reset the display.
You can check frequency output on your machine by comparing minimums and maximums for ranges A through C against your engineering report. If the ranges differ from the report by more than 5 percent, or ranges do not overlap, then there is a problem for the factory to correct. Users usually cannot check range D. If there is reason to check it, call us for customer support/service. The maximum frequency in range D exceeds the highest number that the counter can count. For electronics techs and engineers, the top end of this range may be checked by use of a separate frequency counter.
Uncoil one of the lead sets and remove any protection you have placed on the pads. Most people can hold two pads in one hand without them touching together. If this is not a problem, hold them lightly with dry hands. When operating the machine and experiencing the output for the first time, if you accidently shock yourself, you can easily drop the pads, by letting go. Once you get the hang of it you will become more confident. Never change the range switch while the amplitude is turned up. Always reduce amplitude to zero before you change range. If you don't you will shock yourself. Never turn on the machine, or power down the machine while you are connected to it. Do not remove the pads, as they protect you from electric shock by preventing the bare lead wires from being plugged into an electrical outlet. The leads and pads are permanently installed. Ask customer service about any special modifications you may need. Original Style Rife Equipment does not require an external surge protector. Do not use during a thunderstorm, or where electric line power is intermittent. Never allow the machine to get wet, or damp. Store in a clean, dry place.
21. Surge Protection
Original Style Rife Equipment is not recommended for use in any location where electric power is in any doubt whatsoever. Electric shock will normally occur if the machine is turned on or off during a session. A sudden loss of power will have the same effect. If there is any question about the building or house ground, it is best to have an electrician or utility company worker check it out carefully before you begin doing sessions in that location.
Adequate surge protection is built into the device. If surges are detected in the output of the unit, check or replace the auxiliary ground wire if you have one. If excessive electrical surges are common at the location, and a surge protector is used, the output of the device may be interrupted temporarily, while the surge protector is holding back a power surge. Sudden increases in output may result when the surge is over. It is recommended in these cases to use a surge protect device that contains an uninterruptable power supply, or uses other means to maintain a constant house current. Original Style Rife Equipment components and surge protection measures are very relaible to protect the user from possible harm. It would not be adequate to protect from lightning strike. Generally, no added surge protection device is needed forOriginal Style Rife Equipment.
22. Trouble Shooting
Output Check With a multi meter, checking out out is straightforward. Users exposed to the output will first become accutely, then unconsciously aware of the output, and it's charateristics. If any changes occur in the output, they will feel it even when changes are almost undetectable on a meter. Machines in use are constantly being monitored by the user. Almost all problems with the machine will be obvious ones to those who are very familiar with the behavior of the instrument. If the vacuum tubes fail, the output will stop. Often they appear burned around the top of the glass, but this is not always the case. Tube life is usually 10 years. They are easily replaced.
It is not recomended for most Original Style Rife Equipment users to attempt trouble shooting. However, it is important that users know when a problem exists. If the machine fails the roll test, and it cannot be removed by the filter opening, return for repair. If the machine smokes or has a smell after operating for a few minutes, again, return for repair or replacement. No Output For Original Style Rife Equipment V-3 or older machines, medical leads were used. Leads with broken wires are the most common problem. Check one set against another. Upgrades for older Original Style Rife Equipment machines are available, which eliminate this problem. If the output of the machine fails internally, the counter will read zero when the machine is on. If the counter fails it will not light up. All corrections should be done by us. If the Range Switch is at fault, look for intermittant output when changing ranges. The fan has failed if the fan does not come on when the machine is powered up and the red light is on. Most people will begin to feel the output between 1 and 3 turns on the amplitude. If this does not happen, output may be low or has stopped. Droppage is the most common hazard to the machine, and cause of breakage. The lead wires become taught, pulling the machine over, onto the floor. Do not drop.
23. Warranty
Original Style Rife Equipment deliveries. We still must subjectively test every machine that we ship, sometimes repeatedly. Today's top assembly workers are accustomed to, and educated for modern technology. Original Style Rife Equipment is far from modern. For years, the needed perfection of Rife machine manufacturing has eluded some of the proudest of contractors and engineers. Even at more than twice the normal cost, 80 percent of manufactured machines must re-test through quality control and customer service at least once before they can be released. Your customer service person will personally test your machine prior to it being sent.
Minor handling marks and imperfections are normal, as occurs in manual assembly and testing. The device is guaranteed to be free from defects, other than those of a cosmetic nature. The normal life of this device should be very long, as is commonly expected of devices of this kind. 30 years would not be extraordinary. Heavy use, as in clinics where the instrument is used constantly, are the intended working parameters for Original Style Rife Equipment. The average individual user would use the machine far less, and it will therefore last much longer. It will be replaced or repaired as needed free of charge for a period of 90 days from the date of sale. However, it is our policy to repair failed machines for free, regardless of how old they are. Legally, we can only offer 90 days, because of machines changing hands. But this is only to enable us to refuse free repairs in cases where our policy might be wrongly exploited. Original owners are always welcome to request free repairs at any time. You pay freight. Turnaround is very short. Mishandled merchandise is not warranted. Parts and labor apply for damage repairs. If it is impossible to have repairs done by the BUILDER, and the unit cannot be returned to the factory for FREE SERVICING and UP-GRADING, a qualified radio/TV repair technician should be capable of performing any replacement of parts that will be required. Vacuum tubes have a life expectancy of about 10 years, and may be replaced easily. The builder does not pay for any repairs other than his own. Due to the nature of the product, and the contract under which it is manufactured, there will be no money back guarantees, because performance is controlled by the user.
