Ribose
Ribose is fundamental to the existence of all living cells and functions as the sole regulator in the production of ATP (adenosine-triphosphate), the most basic source of all cellular energy. It is the carbohydrate backbone of genetic material and is also core to the production of many essential metabolic compounds.

One result of poor cardiovascular health is ischemia, a condition where poor blood flow decreases the amount of oxygen reaching various tissues in the body. When ischemia occurs, the body's cells are not gettng the oxygen they need to properly burn energy-producing fuel (such as ATP), and have less energy available for normal everyday life.

When ischemia occurs, ATP levels may decrease by 50 percent or more, and research suggests that it may take seven to ten days for ATP levels to return to normal.
